Read the full proposal here, originally submitted to the Tacoma School Board in 2015. The original proposal called for a new school at a new location. However, the School Board chose to start the academy as a "school-within-a-school" model at Hilltop Heritage Middle School. While Hilltop Heritage will continue as a comprehensive middle school, it also would attract students from across the city for the academy program. Eventually, after a period of testing and proving the model improves academic success, the model could expand to a full school approach.
